Rosy Bourke Lutino hens Blossom & Starfire on Video
Sister Rosy Bourke Lutino hens: Blossom, hand-tamed, was hatched in 2015 and parent-raised by Stormy and Peaches. Starfire, hatched in 2016, was hand-fed from two weeks of age until weaned. She is also out of our Normal Bourke, Stormy, who also appears in the video below. Their mother is an Opaline Fallow Rosy Bourke, named Peaches. Both Stormy and Peaches were hand fed and very tame.
Although Blossom is not hand-fed, she became tame very easily. It probably helped that her parents are tame and she was handled in the nest as she grew up.

Bourke Babies for Sale. Many Varieties and Probable "Splits"
We prefer to only have one pair of Bourkes per cage, however, babies temporarily change that. |
In their first clutch she laid five eggs, and raised four very different babies. The second clutch held six eggs. Five hatched and they raised all five. Rosie Bird on You Tube has several video's of these babies. A link is given at the end of this post for the latest one.
A Lutino and a Rosy on perch in back. Rubino on floor with Normal on front perch at right. |
Storm is a Normal Bourke, split to Lutino since his father is a Lutino. His mother is a Rosy. Peaches' parents are both Rosy Bourkes with dark eyes, and they seem to throw one or two Opaline Fallow babies with red eyes in every clutch. Peaches is a light pink, Opaline Fallow with red eyes and some yellow feathers on her wings. So far in two clutches they've had four Rosies, two Normals, two Lutino's and one Rubino. These offspring could be split to Lutino as their father is.
Lutino in front has a bright yellow back. Rubino is behind her. They're siblings. |
Very young Lutino, Rosy and Rubino, all siblings. |
Very young Rubino Bourke hen. Rubino's have red eyes and are rose colored with no black edging anywhere. |
These Lovelies are for sale. |
If you are able to travel to our beautiful coast, we can describe fascinating places to visit, such as world famous Shore Acres State Park, for instance. Many nice places to stay in Coos Bay or North Bend as well. Many hotels or motels, plus our favorite Bed & Breakfast: http://www.coosbaymanor.com/

Exotic Bird Update From a Busy Writer Behind on Blogging
I can't believe the entire month has gone by and I've not posted anything. Going to squeak in a post on the last day of January just so the month's count won't be zero.
I'm busy editing two books. Cast Me Not Away should be perfect by the time it reaches print ... can't believe how long this book is taking. Began it in Nov., 2009. It's written, but being chopped and edited like crazy. Zara Heritage is my pseudonym ... my real name belongs to so many others.

My Small Exotic Birds book is on hold until the novel above is finally done! Which cover do you like best?
Meanwhile, all my breeder pairs want nest boxes. It's been sunny and warm as it usually gets every February on the Southern Oregon Coast. It's happening a little early this year. However, I'm making them wait a while longer. All our hens were allowed three clutches through Spring and Summer and need a good long rest. Rosie raised 12 healthy babies last year, more than any of the others in 2014. We shall see what happens this year.
I've added a Lutino Bourke hen and am eager to hopefully see babies from her. Isn't she pretty? So is the mate I hope she will accept. Sweetheart is 3 years old. If 18-month-old Sunny absolutely refuses him, I do have a handsome male hatched early last summer, but he's still young.
Sunny and Sweetheart. Hopefully to become a mated pair. |
Everyone have a wonderful 2015. May all your birds bring you joy, and if you're raising exotic birds, may all their eggs hatch and their offspring become beautiful, healthy birds.
Peace and Blessings for 2015.

Lutino Bourke Hen and Potential Rubino Mate
Life has been pretty hectic for us lately, so I've not posted as often as I'd like to. The photo below is of our lovely new Lutino Bourke hen. She's destined (I hope) to become a mate for our tame Rubino, called Sweetheart. He is a sweetheart too, shown in lower right. He has a bit of pale yellow on wings and tail. Both have red eyes.
It will be fun to see what they produce. Although Sweetheart was hatched in 2011, this hen only hatched last July. So, it will be another year before we provide them with a nest box. We don't want to encourage breeding while she's too young and risk egg binding.
Aren't they a pretty couple?
Peace & Blessings.

LUTINO BOURKE PARAKEETS
These two baby Lutino Bourkes were raised by my friend, Deena, at Feathered Friends in Roseburg, Oregon. Although she plans to keep these two for further breeding, I hope to get a hen from this same pair's next clutch. That Lutino hen will be presented as a mate to the red-eyed, dark pink Rosy Bourke male I call Sweetheart. There is a bit of yellow on him too and their youngsters should be fantastic.

Aren't they gorgeous? Below is a link to the Feathered Friends website:

May all your eggs hatch and all your
young birds grow healthy and strong.
