A Marketing "Plug" for BIRDS NOW ads ... Smile.

We've had some success advertising our young Bourke Parakeets online at Birds Now. No, we're not affiliated with them in any way. Simply have benefited from using them to advertise our birds.

If we actually shipped birds, which we don't, we wouldn't have enough to fill all the requests. As of Oct. 19, 2018 we've sold 24 young birds this year and have 21 remaining to sell. All are 2018 hatches. Some are hand fed and very tame and others are parent fed, but used to indoor activity so they don't panic over household noises ... not the garbage disposal, vacuum cleaner, dishwasher or a barking dog.

This lovely Lutino hen and Normal male have decided they want to be a couple. He's been feeding her and she happily accepts his attentions. So, I've decided to offer them as a couple. His mother is also a Lutino and his father is a red-eyed opaline fallow Rosy Bourke. Together they should produce some beautiful clutches of mixed colors. He sings most of the time, and beautifully!

She hatched April 14, 2018 out of our Peaches and Stormy. He's a Normal split to Lutino and Peaches is a light pink, red-eyed opaline fallow Rosy Bourke hen.

The male is out of Blossom, a Lutino hen, and Songster, a red-eyed opaline fallow fellow. Smile. He was hatched June 12, 2018. Although not necessary, when he was even younger, he was DNA tested to positively identify his sex. He has a pretty certificate from Health Gene in Canada showing he's a male.

Can you imagine the color range of youngsters they will produce? If we didn't have several pairs of Bourkes already, we'd be tempted to keep them ourselves. If you're interested, write to rosie.birds@gmail.com for more information.

Our dog, Skoshi (means small in Japanese), is a cute little guy. He's half Shih-tzu and half Pekingese, although the Shih-tzu is most apparent. He barks at anything unknown, but the birds are so used to him that they ignore any of the sounds he makes. Before we had Skoshi, we had a large malamute and lab mix whose bark was deafening ... they ignored him too. Birds get used to all members of the family. If they panic over anything, it's wise to reassure them in your calm voice. They will respond and calm down too. A stray cat at the window, or a hawk perched outside can frighten them. Night fright can occur among any bird species and usually we won't have a clue as to what set them off... Again, a calm, reassuring voice should be all that is needed to settle them back down to sleep.

Our little dog is gentle with the birds. However, it is
best to never leave other pets alone with uncaged birds.

Just listening to them. He knows they're babies.

Baby Bourke Parakeet April, 2017 Update

All the photos in this post are of young Bourke Parakeets from the first clutch of Pretty Boy and Rosie, or from Stormy and Peaches. Rosie hatched three Rosy Bourkes from four eggs;   Peaches hatched five of her six eggs, producing three Rosy Bourkes, two normals (wild color) and one lutino. Although Stormy is a normal Bourke, he carries a gene for lutino from his father, a lutino Bourke.

Flame and Fuchsia are our oldest pair of Bourke Parakeets.  She always lays five eggs per clutch and in the past usually hatched and raised them all. However, last year none of her eggs were fertile. This year, she's not had much success either. But, she does make a wonderful surrogate mother.

Our newest hen, Bella, a normal, laid four infertile eggs. Then, in her second clutch she had two fertile eggs out of four. They both hatched. However, the first baby died and it appears to me that it was not fed. Sometimes young, inexperienced hens do that... Sad, but true.

So, when the 2nd egg hatched two days later, I removed the baby and gave it to Fuchsia who is sitting on her usual five eggs. Some might be fertile in this, her 2nd clutch, but they haven't hatched yet. I candled them and removed one that was definitely fertile and replaced it with Bella's baby. I'm confident that Fuchsia will raise this little fuzzy creature and will probably have saved its life.

I've been hand feeding those eight babies from the two clutches so they will be very tame. Each one is beginning to eat on its own and will be ready to go to a new home very soon. We're located on the south coast of Oregon near Coos Bay.  Sorry, but we are not currently shipping birds.

Bourke Babies for Sale. Many Varieties and Probable "Splits"

We prefer to only have one pair of Bourkes per cage,
however, babies temporarily change that.

Young Peaches and Storm produced two clutches the end of 2015 before we removed their nest box. They were late in the season because of their youth. Not old enough in the Spring, by Fall they wanted to breed so we let them.

In their first clutch she laid five eggs, and raised four very different babies. The second clutch held six eggs. Five hatched and they raised all five. Rosie Bird on You Tube has several video's of these babies. A link is given at the end of this post for the latest one.

There are six babies remaining that are currently for sale.We don't ship our birds. Pick up needs to be somewhere between Reedsport, Oregon (north of us) or Coquille or Bandon, Oregon (south of us). We are located in North Bend, near Coos Bay on the South Coast of Oregon, by the Pacific Ocean. We're NOT near Bend, Oregon, which is in Eastern Oregon. People often get confused between North Bend (named because it's at the north bend of Coos Bay) and with Bend, Oregon ... two very different places.

Storm is a Normal Bourke, split to Lutino since his father is a Lutino. His mother is a Rosy. Peaches' parents are both Rosy Bourkes with dark eyes, and they seem to throw one or two Opaline Fallow babies with red eyes in every clutch. Peaches is a light pink, Opaline Fallow with red eyes and some yellow feathers on her wings. So far in two clutches they've had four Rosies, two Normals, two Lutino's and one Rubino. These offspring could be split to Lutino as their father is.

Bourke Parakeets For Sale: Babies, Hand fed, Very Tame; Rosies, Opalines and Opaline Fallows

Life is so busy lately that I've not posted recently. I want to, and have lots of questions sent to rosie.bird@gmail.com that were answered and I hope to share with Readers.

I've been hand feeding five baby Rosy Bourke parakeets. Prices range from $150 to $225, depending on color. All are very, very tame and sweet. Sorry, but I don't ship. Young Bourke Parakeets & Lady Gouldian Finches for Sale

Placed the following three ads at eBay Classifieds, Pets, Birds today. Thought I'd share them here too.

I primarily raise Rosy Bourke parakeets and this one is a rarity. He's a very pale pink, although over time he will darken some. His face is white and should remain that way. He also has a touch of yellow, but isn't a Lutino. He is an Opaline Fallow Rosy Bourke and has red eyes. Very unusual. Has not been DNA tested to confirm his sex.

Hatched this year (2013) he is parent raised and very sweet. With more attention he should become a tame bird, but is not hand fed. He's a lovely songster. If you raise Bourkes, his line should introduce some beautiful offspring. Recently his great grandfather died, so he is currently keeping his elderly great grandmother company. She is the Rosy shown with him.

These youngsters were parent fed by very tame parents. They should tame down quickly with kind handling. Bourkes are quiet, sweet-natured birds. When it's important to have a quiet pet, they are perfect. Most active at day break and sunset, and have natural, lovely songs. They also wolf whistle.

I raise many birds, but keep only one pair of Lady Gouldian finches. They are a sweet, tame and prolific couple. Hence, the inexpensive price for their offspring.

Currently, we have six baby Gouldians out of the nest and beginning to eat on their own. They don't yet have their adult colors, so they are mostly brown. After their first molt they will have the brilliant colors of their parents.

I've included photos of an earlier clutch that I kept until they molted, but will let these go sooner. If I don't keep them as long, I can sell them for less...an advantage for you!
